If I could only choose two words to describe Derek they would be reasonable and kind. Divorce is never easy and Derek was absolutely wonderful to work with. His approach to everything is "what is reasonable". I loved the energy - nothing cut throat or stressful or aggressive. I couldn't recommend a better lawyer to help you through this process.

This lawyer is the worst family lawyer I ever seem, I was the client and it seemed that he was working for my ex, he refused to listen to me. I left my ex husband in 2013 and in 2014 this lawyer made a very simple separation agreement, just agreeing with all the terms my ex wanted, then he was paid by Legal Aid to do the separation agreement and my divorce. The time went by and every time I contacted him by e-mail to initiate the divorce, he discouraged me saying I would loose child support and I did not need the divorce unless I was ready to marry again, I got confuse and postpone the divorce, that happened many times. Then I realized that I could not continue married to my ex , because I can't even by anything for myself and also he has problems with the law and I want to be far from that, then I contact this lawyer and told him I wanted divorce once and for all, then he said lets just convert the agreement I made in divorce and I told him that I did not want that , because my ex has serious issues and I want sole custody of my 5 year old and also I have the rights of half RRSP from the time I was married ( a friend told me that, not this lawyer). Anyway , this layer tried to make me give up of sole custody, I said I would not give up , I do not even need to go to trial because of my ex issues. In January Derek Stone was supposed to ask my ex all the documents and tell him to go to court on March 31st, but Mr. Stone never advised my ex about anything, then o March 16th , Derek just quite on me, even tough he had to represent me until April 1st, that is when Legal Aid will cut my subsidy . The thing is , this lawyer got the money over 2 years ago to do my divorce and he never did and always discouraged me to do it, all that he did was a very simple and easy agreement with all my ex agreed terms, also just saw me very quickly about 3 times and answered some e-mails and charged almost 3 thousand dollars, everyone knows Lega Aid rate hour is about $30, so I am not sure how did he come with that amount. Also I have an email asking him if this amount I own was included the divorce and the answer from him was : YES !!!! How he could quite the divorce saying Legal Aid would not pay anymore if he already got paid and did not do his job ? I have the e-mail saying that the divorce was included in that amount paid a long time ago. If he took a long time to finish the divorce it is not my problem , it is already paid for. I also had discussed with him that we would go for a simple divorce but if for any reason we needed to go to trial I would borrow money from my family and would pay him more, but he did not give me that chance.
Stay away from this lawyer , he is very incompetent and never listen to his client and get paid and do not do what he was supposed to, that is just my story and my review of his services.
