Had a truly terrible experience using this firm for a home purchase. When I first called, I specifically asked whether they could do a closing that was 30 days away, and whether they could do the signing digitally, as the person I was purchasing the home with lived two hours away. I was assured that both of these things were no issue at all, and started the process of closing with Anneke Russell, or more accurately, her assistant. From the get-go, both the lawyer and her assistant acted like they were doing us a huge favour to do a 30-day closing, even though this timeframe is standard and I told them that the seller was fine moving the date if needed. Truly unpleasant communications from both all the way through the process, terse and borderline rude. Finally, two days before closing, they told me they couldn't do the signing digitally after all, but that this wasn't their fault, the bank was insisting on an in-person signing. I called the bank and this was not the case. Completely ruined what would otherwise have been a joyful and exciting experience. Have since gone with another lawyer in town for other properties and what a difference! With plenty of options in town, go elsewhere.

I have used their services both professionally (Incorporating my business, shareholder agreements etc.) and personally (home purchase and Will) and can't recommend them enough. Their staff are all knowledgeable, professional and seem to genuinely care about you (at a reasonable price). Added bonus is the office was recently renovated so you don't feel like you're walking into the set from an 80's movie (seems to be the Cobourg norm). Over all excellent experience. Would highly recommend.

I found this law firm to be above average in excellence as was Sarah Jacob. You can't always make a consideration based on the odd bad review by contemptuous individuals who are never happy with anything, including themselves. It is obvious that this above person needed to blame someone for the deal falling through and it was convenient blaming the law firm instead of himself. You do a stellar job Sarah!!

DO NOT USE SMM LAW ...
REAL ESTATE NIGHTMARE! My purchaser walked away from the deal with 72 hours until close....and Sarah Jacob at SMM Law DID NOTHING ABOUT IT! He walked away scott-free. Filed complaint with Law Society of Upper Canada.....told me too bad. DO NOT USE THIS LAW OFFICE, or you will come to regret it, I assure you.
