I'm trying to find an accountant for my business and heard many raves about Skinny Tax so I eagerly reached out and tried to contact them for an appointment via their website. Few weeks later after not hearing anything, I call and leave a voicemail… couple weeks later and still nothing. If you're busy and can't get to appointments for a while, I'm okay booking in advance. For a business not to return friendly appointment requests for over a month, well that's just unprofessional.

* update* I was checking my reviews and noticed a pattern. Has anyone else noticed that when a bad review is written about this company, that there is always a reply that says something to the effect of "it's your fault, we don't care or need your business so go someplace else". I'm paraphrasing. There is no accountability or apology. Reviews only seemed good when Mike was there. There was one bad review for Mike because he had left the company and nobody took over his caseload. People, please take the time to read the response as well as the review. Taxes are a big deal.

---I dealt with Mike two years in a row. He was great.he was efficient. Some woman told me today that he had moved on and offered to take on his accounts. That is fine if you are willing to give service. The woman then went in a schpeel that she wanted to work to her convenience which was online and video. She, like all other entitled people, said she is immunocompromised..yadda yadda. I was not offered a discount to cater to her convenience. I don't like the idea of bending over backwards for someone that I am paying. When I told the woman that I could bring her a mask and that I was in recovery from bone marrow failure myself..she handled it by ignoring me..lol. Don't go here folks unless you want to pay someone for the privilege of catering to them..rather than them working for your business. Some people have obligations where they don't have access to computers and internet from their car. It appears that this accountant thinks that I should run home in the middle of the day from work, school, parental obligation, and more...to video chat and conference. Since I live on the edge of town...I am not normally in my home for a random hour in the middle of the day and if I was, I'd be trying to have a meeting in front of 5 other family members! Thanks but no thanks. Go to your office and clean it like any self respecting professional!

I've never really been one to write Google Reviews but Mike Hohol at Skinny Tax greatly assisted me with my 2016-2017 returns that were a huge mess because of a complicated situation I was in due to one of my former employers/jobs. At the time, I had done everything myself through Turbo Tax, thinking it was easy to do, and although Turbo Tax can seem easy, straight forward, and affordable, Turbo Tax doesn't know your exact situation and that can end up causing you to input numbers in places you shouldn't and such...

Mike knew exactly what he was doing despite the mess I made of the returns, he fixed everything for me really quickly, he was always easy to reach through e-mail and responded quickly. He's a very personable and professional guy, it was always easy to schedule in appointments with him, and overall it was just a fantastic first experience with an Accountant.

I filed my 2018 return with him as well, will continue to file with him when needed, and I've already recommended him to others.

I setup a meeting to go over my tax filling, waited for 15 min but the account did not seem to care much, so I left. If that's how they take care of their customers in the beginning, you wonder if your future experience will be any better. I told them my first impression was not a good one and I rather not give them my business. Also when I made appointment they did not even send an invite, I sent them an invite to make sure no one forgot.
I hope other people have better experience than I did. I hope with this review, they will value new customers more.

Mike at Skinny Tax has been excellent, thorough, and compassionate. I lost my husband last year and he made the process of filing the final return so easy for me, and he even found a couple of deductions that had never been claimed. We had a tax planning meeting before year-end too, all with extremely reasonable rate. Mike has my business for as long as he wants it. 🙂
