Peter and his team went above and beyond all of my expectations while handling my separation file. The saying "you get what you pay for" is absolutely true. From my induction meeting with Peter to working with Amanda throughout the proceeding, I felt well-informed and comfortable...in fact, I can say I was entirely at ease! Not once was I prodding him for updates - in fact, it was he and his staff doing that quite frequently with the other law firm.
Peter has a knack for making sure that you understand your options. I emphasize "understand" - he takes the time to educate you and allows you to make a well-informed decision as to the course being charted. He doesn't tell you what he's going to do - it's a collaborative process where your input is genuinely heard and used to piece together a solution.
Thanks to Peter, the negotiation of my separation agreement went smoothly. I couldn't have asked for it to have gone any better.
I hope I never require the services of a lawyer again, but if I do, Peter will be my only call. He may be one of the most expensive lawyers in town, but his level of experience and knowledge are unparalleled.

Last year I got into a big custody battle with my ex.     As a dad, I had heard so often how only mother’s get custody and all of that stuff.     A co worker had been a client of Peter Doucet and  told me that he knew his stuff and gave free consultations.     When I called, I explained how I just got served with court papers and had a lot of questions.     Mr. Doucet spoke to me right away, and arranged a free consultation appointment for early the next morning.       I knew that I was taking a lot of time explaining  everything, but Mr. Doucet made me feel calm as he listened to everything I had to say and gave me guidance.    He assured me that the consultation was no charge, even if it took a couple of hours.    I got clear answers in that first appointment and hired Mr. Doucet.      We ended up having to go to trial because my ex wanted nothing less than sole custody and wanted to move my son to southern Ontario.    I got sole custody of my son.   Hiring Peter Doucet was the best decision I made.

Simply put Doucet is a crook. He charged my ailing parents over $80,000 for my sisters divorce.

TIMMINS - A Timmins lawyer has been publicly rebuked for overcharging clients who had collectively paid out more than $131,000 in legal fees.

According to an agreed statement of facts, Peter Doucet “voluntarily reimbursed” most or all of the fees to the individual clients, refunding a sum total of about $124,000.

On Monday in Toronto, Doucet appeared before a panel of the Law Society of Upper Canada – the governing body for lawyers in Ontario to answer to claims made against him concerning charges of overbilling.

The panel determined that in 2002 and in 2008 there were four instances in which Doucet “billed clients of modest means, fees which were disproportionate to the value of the work performed.”

The clients, who came to Doucet with matters dealing with family law, estates and civil litigation, paid out fees ranging from $9,300 to $68,000. Most of the clients were from Timmins; one of the parties was from Chapleau.

In addition to being publicly reprimanded by the Law Society, Doucet was fined $5,000.

Doucet has been practising law since 1986 and is a sole practitioner based in Timmins.
