My friend is being audited for 2 out of the 3 years that this bookkeeper prepared their books for. I am having to rebuild their entire business books from scratch. They did not use an accounting software but rather simply tallied up totals only. This is not CRA compliant for busineses record keeping. I have also found so many issues thus far including but not limited to many non business expense receipts being included like groceries and liquor store purchases. I have found adding errors and and what I can only figure is estimated totals, exact rounded figures for income and some expenses. As the CRA auditor said, "What's the chances of that?" I still havent figured out how she came up with some of the totals. Some reciepts may still be missing that was given to her and not returned. There was a work van purchased in 2021, I found it claimed in year 2020, he didnt even own it yet. It's a complete mess. Well, the CRA did flag it and here I am trying to fix it from scratch.
