We reached out to Pamela McLeod on December 19 to request a quote for her services as a solicitor. During our phone conversation, she asked several questions about our home purchase, which we assumed were to provide us with an estimate. She also requested our purchase agreement and amendment, which we sent via email. In response, she replied, “I am looking forward to working with you” and asked us to confirm the name of our mortgage broker. I replied with the broker’s name, but at no point did we confirm that she would be our solicitor, nor did she provide us with a formal quote.

On December 23, she sent us a form related to a will, but since we were still unsure about her pricing, we chose not to complete it.

On January 7, my wife called her office, and her assistant finally provided the price for their services. During that call, the assistant also asked about the bank handling our mortgage and confirmed our email address, mentioning that they would initiate the process in February since our closing date was February 12. However, we never gave authorization to proceed.

Ultimately, we decided to go with another lawyer who was a better fit for us. Since we had never committed to using Pamela’s services, we did not inform her of our decision.

On January 24, we received an email from her requesting some documents. My wife replied, letting her know that we had chosen another office. Then, on January 27, Pamela called my wife and informed her that she would be billing us for her time, even though we had never officially retained her services. The invoice she provided included charges for the two phone calls in which we were simply seeking a quote and clarification on her services, as well as the email she sent regarding the will.

We were surprised and disappointed by this, as we never gave any indication that we had agreed to work with her. This experience was frustrating, and we would advise others to be cautious and ensure they receive a formal quote and confirm all terms in writing before proceeding.

A straightforward will in which I as executrix did all of the necessary filling out of forms myself and she only had to submit them for probate to the court, turned expensive when her staff called or emailed me repeatedly asking the same questions over and over again that had already been answered by me by emails and calls. Of course, she charged me for all incidents. Absolutely ridiculous that I had to pay for her and staff incompetence. And it took twice as long to get things settled because of this. Time for her to get a competent paralegal. Go to another lawyer...

I recently received a cheque for proceeds from the sale of my home given to me by Pamela J Mcloed. The bank made a mistake when depositing so , I had to get a new one from Pam. It turned into quite an ordeal , Pam had to follow very strict guidelines to write a new one for me. Because, "if you cancel a cheque and a disgruntled employee from the bank wants to cash it, it can still be cashed"....please tell me when that would actually happen. After approximately 2 weeks, I went to the bank , put the two of them on the phone and got things figured out. Pam charged me for her time. I may have been ok with being charged for her time if she didn't take 2 weeks to get a simple thing done. She would not be my first or even 5th choice in sarnia for a lawyer.
