I have been a client of the Immigrant Center for 2 years and I am extremely grateful for the services that employees provide. However, last time I was there I saw something disturbing which I can't help sharing. I am an immigrant myself and also work in customer service so I know what people's interaction should look like. I don't like to complain but when it concerns other people I can't be quiet. Last time I was there for two hours waiting in the lobby and I witnessed an utter unprofessionalism from one of the receptionists, I believe her name is Olha. It was not just one situation where I thought: wow! that's rude!

When I came there first time to verify some translations she said that I needed the originals (it turned out that I didn't, I needed just the copies of the originals) and I had to bus home in -30 to get the originals. Also I didn't know how to call this procedure (an apostille or not apostille) and she said that I should send them to Ottawa, not even asking what I needed them for. 100 % she knows that Ukrainian immigrants need them for PR and just need to verify the document and call this procedure the wrong name. That happened to some other people as well:" Apostille?Send them to Ottawa! Ne-e-ext!"
There was another family from Africa (people were probably not able to fill out the forms themselves) A wife(or a sister) was helping the guy to fill out the form. The receptionist Olha yelled at his wife(or sister): "No!!!!!Don't help him! He has to do it himself!!" So instead of helping him, she forbade someone else to help him. I don't think that document was of CIA importance.
Another Ukrainian lady was asking Olha something and she said to this lady as if scolding her: "Why didn't you come earlier!?It's too late now!" The lady was just seeking advice.

Another couple, also immigrants, a little confused, needed to verify documents but also didn't know how to call this procedure so they said "apostille", she didn't correct them, didn't ask why they needed it. She said they could only verify them, the couple agreed. Olha says: "Ok we need to register you", she proceeds to take their name and last name and finds out that they already have an account and goes: "oh, you already have an account, why didn't you say that when I asked?!" as if telling them off. The outrageous part is that she didn't ask them about their account, NEVER! They were too shy and didn't speak good English to talk back.

Also, I know that there is war in Ukraine ans some people have aversion to russian language but we can't deny that all Ukrainians KNOW russian. There was a visitor who struggled to speak English and he spoke russian (and he is not Ukrainian OR russian, he was obviously either from Azerbaijan or Turkmenistan) and she spoke English to him just out of spite. Even if she spoke Ukrainian he would understand better but OMG! poor guy spoke russian.

I lost everything in Ukraine and had to flee devastated but I didn't develop such a strong harshness. I believe people have to be nice to each other, especially to people who just came to the country. All the other workers that I dealt with at the Immigrant Centre are amazing, Lola and Roselyn. They are older and wiser. Roselyn called me "dear" and didn't rush me. Lola once helped me with the work permit and explained every single detail which I am still extremely grateful for. The other Ukrainian guy at the front is super nice too.

I wouldn't post this review but today on Facebook I came across this post about Olha with many people complaining about her. Quoting: " I feel like shit every time I go there and talk to her" around 15 other people shared the same thought. I hope some measures will be taken in that respect

Great for getting document translations notarized. Much more affordable compared to the for-profit notary organizations that do this. Just keep in mind you must translate the document yourself, and then provide them the original as well. Usually for Spanish translations, you get the notarized results back within a day or two.
