They claim to know the law but FAMILY LAW 101 is knowing how to file and serve someone PROPERLY. Now I warned Mr. Ryan Fedoruk to serve me with due time and yet he or his office did not listen so he will have to answer for that to the Law Society of Alberta. If you want shady tactic lawyers, than by all means hire these clowns but I feel Stringham Law would be a better bang for your buck... see you in court Ryan you ll most likely ask for another adjournment when you see my response in court...

I recently purchased my third property and decided to use Hayes Fry Law for the first time.
This purchase was a bit unique as payment was made in full through a third party so there was no required transfer of funds by Hayes Fry Law.

I have to say that overall, I was extremely disappointed in their service.

1. When I entered the office for the first time ever, there were 3 ladies at the front desk and no a single one said hello. I was only addressed by one (presumably the receptionist) who said “where is your ID? Fill out this form” and that was it. Zero customer service.
2. I was dealing with a law student for the purchase. I am a professional myself and understand the importance of students. But I was disappointed that my overall fee that I was charged was not reflective of a students services (or if it was, then I am concerned about how high the rate would be for a fully licensed lawyer as what I was charged at Hayes Fry is nearly the same as what I was charged to use a firm in Edmonton with a licensed lawyer and a more complex sale that involved mortgages, etc).
3. The student and rest of the team that I was dealing with just had zero attention to detail:
- my name was spelled incorrectly on every document from Hayes fry because the seller typed it wrong in their email but it was spelled correctly on every legal document that they sent over.
-they provided me information on paying property taxes in the city of grande prairie and that is not even where the property is located
-I needed to explain to two different people twice that the funds were already transferred to the seller so they needed to update their documents. This tells me that their team is not communicating and they are on autopilot getting these real estate deals through. I was charged their fee to “prepare my file” but it was not prepared correctly the first, second or even third time.
- they asked me to pay their fee and were oddly hesitant to send me an invoice to request payment. I got a fairly abrupt email stating “As mentioned before the amount required to complete you deal is XXXX please” (yes, with the typo) even though I had already asked on two occasions to be send an invoice before I blindly send money to someone based on a simple email sentence. (And need an invoice for accounting purposes)
-I received no confirmation that all of the paperwork was processed and the sale had gone through (when I purchased my last two homes my lawyer and his team called me to not only inform me of the completion but also to congratulate me). I had to reach out via email and finally got confirmation 3 days after closing.

Overall, if home/property buyers are looking for a law firm on their team that will make the home buying experience special and well communicated, then I would recommend looking elsewhere. It is absolutely possible that I just had a bumpy first experience with them. But I remain disappointed as despite multiple emails and even communicating to the student at law that the interaction was not going well in the moment, I received no apology or change in course. I felt like the team did not care about me or my purchase.

My biggest feedback would be that there needs to be better and more frequent communication to the client, there needs to be more pleasant reception staff, and there needs to be greater attention to detail with regards to what town the real estate is in that their client is buying.
Hopefully others are able to have a more positive experience.

I was referred to Hayes Fry by a friend, the referral did not disappoint. Kevin has been very pleasant and empathetic to my sensitive situation. This was my first time in need of legal advice, he was very thorough with the steps needed to complete my claim.

I've been dealing with Nathan since his first office on the north end. He did such a good job on my divorce I was hoping to never have to use his services again. But the universe doesn't work like that. When I needed him I got results. Nathan was the kind of lawyer I needed when I needed him. He also never hesitated to tell me the hard facts and was fairly upfront for a lawyer.
The only real complaints I have are with the legal system not so much him. Leah has been good to deal with in my real estate dealings.
Word to the wise..... Murphy Laws applies to the legal system. If you think its going to be simple,cost effective and "not be concerned". Oh boi. Chances are its not your lawyers fault. Sometimes they're just bearer of bad news.
