I was appalled by 1) the news that it took 40 hours to complete three years of income taxes AND the final invoice (after I expressed concerns about what they wanted to charge me) $1K over what I anticipated.

The final invoice was almost triple what I had been originally led to believe. Even though they discounted their fee (because of the hand-offs from one accountant to another again and again due to what seemed like a mass exodus of accountants leaving GSE), I really am appalled by the hours they say they spent on the file. I commented that 40 hours works out to approx. 13 hours each year to complete something that should not have taken more than two hours each year. We have simple income taxes -- one spouse with self-employment (no employees and all numbers were given in the CRA business statement form) and one spouse with pension income and a very simple business statement (all done to CRA business statement template), plus a few donations, and an AirBnB. I also commented that for 30+ years, I sat with my previous accountant each year while completing the taxes (which were less organized than what I gave GSE) and that each year’s preparation only took a maximum of two hours. The senior partner’s response was, “Thank you for your feedback.”

I was also stunned by 2) how uncaring the GSE team was. From the time I started with them last year, they had one accountant after another leave GSE, a mass exodus. I can count four hand-offs (notified only by email bounce-backs) to the final woman, a senior partner, who was civil but offered no explanation or apology. Nothing.

What is wrong with this organization? I was seeking a new accountant because my former accountant of 30+ is retiring, and was referred by someone to GSE, but I am in no way using GSE for any future work.

I was informed 18 days after the tax deadline that they would not be filing my taxes for me that I submitted in early April. I had to contact twice for them to inform me of this, I was not given a reason as to why this was the case. Worst experience I've had at a business. Now I need to find somewhere else and potentially pay a late fee on my tax filing. Thank you for nothing.

Absolutely horrible people and service here. Waited 3 weeks until we called to check up on them, in order for them to tell us they wouldn't be able to take us this year. Still shocked by how rude and unprofessional Derek Michelle was, and can't believe any buisness could treat its clients like this. Avoid this place like the plague.
