It has come to my attention that Peter, a well-known lawyer in Victoria, has engaged in conduct that raises serious ethical and professional concerns. Specifically, Peter provided false information to a self-represented litigant via email, an action that may constitute conduct unbecoming of a lawyer, as outlined in the Legal Profession Act (British Columbia) and the Code of Professional Conduct for British Columbia (CPC-BC).

When confronted with the misrepresentation, Peter allegedly dismissed concerns by boasting about his imminent retirement and claiming that the Law Society of British Columbia (LSBC) would have no jurisdiction over him. However, while retirement may limit direct regulatory consequences for Peter personally, the Law Society still retains authority over his client—a fellow lawyer—who has previously faced multiple taxations for overbilling.

Furthermore, when challenged with documented evidence, Peter allegedly attempted to shift the focus by claiming he felt "threatened" or "scared." Such a claim lacks merit, given that all interactions are substantiated in writing.

This situation raises broader concerns about professional accountability within the local Bar. While Peter's retirement may conclude his career, it does not absolve him—or his client—from potential scrutiny. If anything, his departure arguably enhances the professional integrity of the local legal community.

As a self-represented litigant, I maintain my right to proceed without legal counsel or, if necessary, to insist upon legal representation that does not engage in such questionable tactics. Transparency in legal proceedings is paramount, and I appreciate the clarity this situation has provided regarding the integrity of those involved.
