I am sorry to say that the way Equity Law Group handled our case was unacceptable. The firm was informed on February 22, that the property we were purchasing was a pre-paid leasehold when we sent our initial inquiry. They had our file for 14 weeks and had received all the documents from our Bank and Realtor, and it was not until 14 days before our closing date, and after I sent them some questions that they clearly could not answer, that they told us they didn’t have the experience to work with leaseholds and we needed to find another Law Firm.

Also, I believe we were informed of this today only due to the fact I contacted the conveyancing assistant last night to ask some questions I had about our file. If I haven't sent them an email, we would probably not even be informed until even closer to our closing day. This has put us in a very difficult position, as we have spent all day contacting Law Firms that would be able to assist us with our closing, and they are all fully booked for the month of June. Their staff did not even have the courtesy to give us a call to explain the situation and/or offer recommendations of other firms that could assist us, as the majority of the law firms we contacted did when they told us they could not take our file because they were fully booked.
We are really disappointed by how this situation was handled, and I will make sure to file a formal complaint, as the negligence of this firm can jeopardize our transaction.
