I wish I could say I had a fantastic experience with Spencer and Crescendo. I was referred to them to take care of the taxes regarding a property sale. Being a non-resident, I needed to take care of some additional paperwork, which I was assured would be no problem. During the application for my ITN, I was rejected 3 times due to inaccuracies in what Spencer informed me I would need to provide. I was told this was a new process for them and I remained patient, however made my thoughts known that I was paying them for their expertise and was disappointed.

Now I needed to apply for a Certificate of Compliance for my sale. What came next was months of back and forth. I received uncertainty from Spencer regarding who the certificate would be sent to, I received some of the correspondence that was sent from the CRA to Crescendo, however I did not receive the most important part.

I was told for months that Crescendo did not receive the certificate. It was after a final conversation with the CRA, reviewing every possible folder in the portal that I found out that not only did Crescendo receive the document, they failed to inform me. Spencer had previously adamantly denied any receipt of it. 5 additional months had gone by at this point. As a non resident, half of your funds from the sale are held back until you receive this certificate. Crescendo filed my paperwork as my representative and selected to have mailing go to the representative. Spencer went above and beyond to be argumentative and blame the CRA when I asked for a review and consolidation of the CRA communication.

All of this led to additional expenses for me which would have not accrued had the Certificate been properly communicated to me. Those expenses would have been halved if Spencer or his assistant had taken ten minutes for a quick review, which I politely asked for. When I pointed this out, I was given an explanation of how I am technically in the wrong.

If the same effort had been expended 5 months sooner to review the communications received from the CRA, as was used to reply to tell me that I was in the wrong, I would have had no problem saying they did a good job.

If I could do it again, I would not have brought them my business.
