My Drive to Banff Registry today was so worth it.

I didn't think the one employee they had on duty today is anyone I'd like to talk to.

After I logged after being instructed to do so in Canmore this morning, I was ninth in line.

I was getting texts an hour after leaving the place telling me I was 7th.

There are a lot of negative reviews. I am sure there are negative experiences. But after my family and I have been dealing with Canmore Registry for 12 years I want to share our positive experience. Yes there have been times when it was busy and we had to wait. Not really the employee's fault. But everyone was always friendly and helpful and tried to accommodate us whenever possible without bending the rules. It probably helped that we speak English and make sure that we have all the required documents.

I arrived at 1:18 pm and texted my name per the system. A paper sign on the door advised they would re-open at 1:30. At 2:39 pm MANY people had been served and no trace of my name. I re-texted and this time got a response telling me my wait time was going to be 2 minutes. A kind lady who came after me but got served ahead of me offered me her 'second' spot in line as she texted in twice. I got to the service counter thanks to her explaining to the lady behind the counter what had transpired. I showed the lady my original text and she advised that the "system" didn't take messages when they were closed. I don't know how many others were caught by this but way to drop the ball. The ladies working were busy and struggling to keep up. Doing their best 100%. With all of the technology in use,could someone not program a function for 'closed' time? Or perhaps a simple note on the closed sign they printed. I am not sure if others have bee caught by this but it sure wasted my afternoon. PLEASE address this issue. It made for a poor experience.

Very straight forward exchange with the wonderful lady; she told me what I needed to present for a Class 5 License application, I presented it, and she delivered with a smile. Very friendly service.

Easier to just drive the few minutes to Banff and not have to deal with post pandemic stupidity and restrictions such as texting to get served.

It’s been outrageously long wait for years, they need more employees but who knows what the conditions are like. Also, they charge more than everywhere else I have been for the same services. Too bad Google reviews do nothing to improve this public serving place.

Don’t bother calling them as they are apparently always “too busy” to answer the phone and even if you email they’re also too busy to reply to the expect to wait at least three days and get incorrect information any how. As they apparently just don’t do out of province license exchanges anymore but will gladly send you all the info about doing one making it seem like you can get a license exchanged. Although they will gladly not include the part how they don’t actually process them. They enjoy wasting everyone’s time.
