The Law Society of Alberta dismissed a case I had against my retained lawyer where my lawyer only returned 50% of my money which was $1,500 because she said she did not want to fight my case anymore after I paid her. The lawyer never did any work on my case after I payed her the $3,000 she asked for !!! TRIBUNAL JUSTICE ONLY HAPPENS WHEN IT IS EXPOSED IN THE NEWS !!!! Why does Premier Danielle Smith allow an Alberta Law Society that does not care about keeping it's rules of fair justice for all !!! THAT IS OK BECAUSE I AM NOT DONE FIGHTING THE LAW SOCIETY OF ALBERTA & THIS LAWYER & SINCE I HAVE 4 GENERATIONS OF LAWYERS IN MY FAMILY & I AM A MILITARY LAWYER DOING INTERNATIONAL LAW I CAN NOT WAIT TO GET POLITICAL REVENGE BETTER THAN TRUMP COULD EVER DO SINCE I HAVE LITIGATED ALL THE WAY UP TO THE SUPREME COURT OF CANADA MANY TIMES BEFORE !!! THE CALGARY POLICE ALSO DID NOT CARE TO INVESTIGATE A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT I HAD ABOUT THE CASE I HAD TO HIRE THIS LAWYER OVER & I HAD LOTS OF FACTUAL SLAM DUNK EVIDENCE. THIS SHOWS HOW CORRUPT THE LEGAL SYSTEM IN ALBERTA IS. IF THE LAW SOCIETY OF ALBERTA COMES AFTER ME FOR MAKING THIS TRUTHFUL COMMENT JUST REMEMBER I AM BETTER AT FIGHTING GOVERNMENT POLITICS THAN YOU ARE SINCE THIS IS MY JOB !!!

I submitted a complaint against a lawyer a year ago but have not received any resolution. Instead, the lawyer I complained against is now billing his time to answer the complaint to the law society to my deceased mothers estate. I have brought this to the Law Society's attention, but they refuse to respond. I even have this in writing from the lawyer that he is billing the estate to answer complaints against him. Had I known the Law Society would do nothing and then allow a lawyer to bill me for responding to a complaint, I would have never filed a it. This is absurd.

I should have not bothered as I read all the reviews here of all these innocent people. This association advertises itself as the one that restores balance in the unfair cases with lawyers but they don’t even try to investigate your claim. I had a 10 pages claim against my lawyer for negligence after she ditched my case last minute and I ended up paying her $7500. I spent 4 weeks collecting evidence and 5 weeks compiling all the emails to support my case. Brett Stuart, a person from ALIA received my documents on Friday and I don’t think these people work on weekend. On Monday she obtained another piece of evidence from me which was a final document that proved I was entitled to my money back and in less than 24 hours I hear from her assistant (because she didn’t have the guts to tell me herself) that after obtaining evidence from the lawyer she concluded I have no basis for my claim. In order to obtain any evidence from the lawyer, the lawyer first needed time to collect it. With lawyers’ busy schedule I don’t believe she did. After I asked for a copy of this evidence to see what is there so substantial to reject my claim, they told me they cannot share the lawyer’s information with me but they shared my information with the lawyer. This investigation was absurd and didn’t even take place! I complained to the manager but of course she backed up her employee and rejected my concern. Don’t waste your precious time reporting anything to them, you will regret it at the end!

We bought a house. The day before possession we did a walk through and found that even a gas leak had not been fixed. We were assured that it would be fixed by the next day when we moved in. When we arrived at the house the day of possession the deficiencies were not fixed. The lawyer for the seller demanded we release conditions and rewrite the contract releasing all conditions. We had no choice but to agree as all our possessions were sitting in a moving van in the driveway and we were paying movers $350 per hour to sit there doing nothing and had nowhere else to put our things. We filed a complaint with the law society as holding a person hostage to renegotiate a contract is definitely not how a lawyer should behave. Here we are 1.5 years later and the law society has done nothing, literally nothing. Self regulation is a privilege but the law society has no understanding of their duty to protect the public. I will be taking my concerns to our MLA as this is a profession that should have greater public oversight and not be self-regulating.

I have to agree with other comments in that this organization will take the side of the lawyer rather than the general public's. The real victims, from middle and lower classes, have lost hard earned money to rich lawyers who are not reprimanded for malpractice. A classic example of the wealthy protecting the wealthy under the guise of an "institution" that appears to maintain justice and civility within society. It's absolute garbage. The investigation is free of charge but it is an utter waste of time and energy (and months, if not years, of waiting). Don't expect them to take your word for anything and be forewarned that they will interpret any evidence you have through a lens that best suits their needs rather than yours. If you have had any verbal conversations with a lawyer which aren't documented or recorded you are hooped as far as "evidence" goes. In other words, record all of your conversations because the elitist members of society cannot be trusted or held accountable for their actions, no matter how humiliating, dishonest and sickening they might be. This organization will keep nasty, crooked and sly lawyers bound to their titles with as much ease as high-risk re-offenders are released back into the community. I've not posted this review using my real name, so any further comments from the organization assuming that this is an illegitimate review should be disregarded.

The Alberta Law Society is the first line of defense for Lawyers committing Criminal Code offenses. Being privy to the evidence of a crime ahead of Law Enforcement is by the very definition of "Obstruction of Justice". Your Complaint to the Alberta Society will not be investigated courtesy of the Past Presidents now Honourable Justice's.

Will always protect one of their own. I have no faith in them or the system. They let a lawyer who represented my exhusband talk her way out of doing something she should have lost her license for. I submitted my proof and she talked her way out of it and I was belittled by the society for reporting it. Myself and my children will never get any justice. My ex will continue to breech our divorce agreement because he has a lawyer who has no scruples and is allowed to do whatever she wants and the society backs her up. Such a joke. Dont waste your time and energy reporting anything... IT IS A COMPLETE FARSE. SUCH A JOKE.
