My experience was excellent! I had AH CPAs assemble a number of back tax returns for an estate, that also is in Ontario! This appeared to be a complex matter, to me, but not to them! Achen Henderson are extremely slow and terrible at communication. They filed our taxes incorrectly. When we got an unexpected bill from CRA and reached out to them about it, we heard nothing back for weeks and eventually got a response of "not our problem."

Thankfully we have found an accountant who is competent, organized, and much better at communicating. They have been able to correct the error of the previous filing and even found us an additional refund.

I hate to leave a bad review but I had a miserable experience with hiring this firm for my 2022 personal cross-border tax return.

My biggest complaint is the lack of communication and the lack of an expected deadline to complete things. As apart of the contract, my Canadian return was completed on time but the US return simply stated that it would be filed after the Canadian one.

After more than 5 months of silence and my US return not being filed, I sent an email in September 2023 which was ghosted. Another in November 2023 which was responded to but I was not provided with when it would actually be filed.

I followed up with another email in early January 2024 with no response and another in late January with no response. I sent two more emails in early and mid-March 2024 and finally heard a response after CC'ing Clayton (one of the founders). After this, my returns were quickly submitted.

The folks that work here are incredibly knowledgeable, but the lack of communication was simply astounding to me. Not replying to a single email in more than 6 months, and any phone call goes straight to voice mail with no response. It's perfectly okay to take time to get things right, but it is not okay to leave a paying customer hanging for more than half a year.

If you're encountering similar levels of ghosting, I would highly suggest CC'ing Clayton who will actually read the email and get things through. I'm very grateful for Clayton, as without him I feel like my return would've never been done. From start to finish, this process took more than a year when it should've at most ended at the IRS tax deadline in 2022.

Clay Achen and his team at Achen Henderson are an amazing accounting firm. They have been able to take over all our corporate tax filings, keeping our monthly books up-to-date with excellent book keeping software and integration, and even run the payroll. His tax advice will save us much more than the fees we are paying Achen Henderson, and the professionalism and tight controls they bring to my business means not a single expense is missed.
