I have been using Origami Accounting for a few years now and am extremely happy with their services. They prepare my corporate and personal returns and the process could not be simpler. The main reason I selected them it they cater to a small business like mine and there are no big bills, rather a reasonable monthly fee. I used origami for years for accounting and bookkeeping for my small veterinary practice. It kept costs down, and I was satisfied during the regular running of the business. However when it came time to sell my business, they were slow and unresponsive, getting me into difficulty with the CRA. My accountant Linda Zhang often seemed confused when dealing with my experienced brokers, and made several mistakes that cost us months and months of time in finishing the deal. She was rarely available to phone and I didn't understand most of her emails, making it seem like she really didn't understand my business or my needs. At a couple times in the process I even reached out to other accounting firms to see if they could help us out get the process back on track! The communication problems and delays were borderline unprofessional!

I have a small engineering practice and needed help with my accounting; I was finding that corporate taxes were much more complex than personal taxes. I decided to give Origami a try to catch up on my monthly book keeping and file my annual return. At first I was concerned about the cost for their services, but I found that they saved me so much effort and found me tax savings that paid for themselves.

What I appreciate most, is that whenever I have a question, I can always call or e-mail the accountant assigned to my company and he responds right away. If I miss information in one of my monthly envelopes, the book keeper contacts me right away, and we can resolve the issue immediately - instead of waiting until the year end and potentially missing something. This regular communication between myself and Origami staff help reassure me that the accounting for my company is being taken care of.

I am editing my original rating. I was informed in December 2022 that Origami was raising its fees starting in 2023, and substantially from what I was paying at the time. I decided to look around at other accounting companies and chose to go with another firm to start 2023. I was sorry to say goodbye to Origami, but I just could not afford to accept their increase in fees at the time. I informed Origami in writing that I was terminating their services and I did not send them any documents in December 2022 or January 2023, instead those went to my new accountant. I paid the December 2022 fees for Origami as I had informed them halfway through the month about the termination, so I still felt obliged to pay for that month, but it was very clear in my notice to them that I was not needing their services in 2023 and that was acknowledged in an e-mail from their founder.

Then I found that they billed me at the end of January 2023. I cannot find a way to get them to stop billing me except to put a stop payment on the ATF from my account. What a way to end a 10 year business relationship.

Origami has been amazing to work with. They took over our bookkeeping and accounting, which were both a complete disaster from the year before, and got everything organized for us. Even better has been the hands on help with applying for all the COVID benefits that the government has set up for small businesses, they have literally done everything, we just get forms to sign and that's it. Would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a reprieve from their books, it's given us the opportunity to focus squarely on our company.

I can't say enough about how amazing this company is! They have saved me so much time taking care of everything. All I have to do is put all of my receipts in the FedEx envelope (Prepaid) and send it to them at the end of every month, They take care of everything.

Just recently I was very impressed with my accountant Dan. I was quite late in getting some of my paperwork in for the book keepers (no ones fault but my own) and as a result I would have been quite delayed in my filings. I needed a rush on this and Dan was able to get it done much sooner than anticipated.
