I had a very negative experience with Mathers McHenry & Co. and feel very taken advantage of, having just been in a very vulnerable position and losing my job. My experience is similar to others who have posted negative reviews about feeling cheated.

I feel that it was not transparent that my pre-retainer conversations/emails were being charged. I always feel overcomunation is better than under communication. If I would have known that I had a large legal bill before I signed the retainer, I would have not gone with this firm.

Really disappointed overall with the quality of counsel and the value for the significant money I paid. Especially considering I now need to retain another firm to take my case in order to have my legal issues dealt with.

If you are looking for transparent legal counsel I can not recommend this firm at this time. I feel I am now in a much worse position.

Absolute disaster. I would advise avoiding this firm at all costs. I am scared that I may not be able to afford the legal help that I really need.

Warning: Read Before Retaining This Firm

I am writing to share an extremely distressing and costly experience I had with Mathers McHenry & Co and KbaLaw. I paid $3,000 CAD in legal fees, hoping for professional and transparent service, but instead, I found myself feeling utterly exploited and left in a worse situation than before.

The ordeal began when Kimberly Boara Alexander from KbaLaw referred me to Mathers McHenry & Co. Despite her involvement with Pathology Associates, one of the potentially conflicting parties in my case, she assured me that this was a conflict-free referral. Trusting her judgment during a very vulnerable time, I proceeded with the referral, only to later realize that this was strange. This alone made me feel deceived and anxious about my case's future.

Throughout my interactions with Mathers McHenry & Co, I experienced a severe lack of transparency and poor communication, particularly regarding billing practices. I was billed by a second lawyer which I had pre-retainer conversations with. This unexpected cost, especially given my tight financial situation. Despite the substantial fees, my case saw no meaningful progress. The demand letter they were supposed to draft was never finalized, leaving me now months behind and significantly stressed.

When I attempted to address these concerns and sought a partial refund, I was met with hostility and accusations. The firm's response was not only dismissive but also aggressive, for merely sharing my honest experience. This unprofessional and intimidating behavior exacerbated my stress and left me feeling even more vulnerable and helpless.

The emotional and financial toll this experience has taken on me is immense. I felt trapped, with no progress on my case, and my trust in these kind of legal professionals completely shattered. I even had to seek advice from another attorney about the billing practices of Mathers McHenry & Co, which only added to my anxiety and frustration.

In summary, my experience with Mathers McHenry & Co and KbaLaw has been a nightmare. I strongly advise anyone considering retaining these firms to think twice and ensure you have all necessary information and transparency before proceeding. This experience has not only drained me financially but also left me emotionally distressed and disillusioned with the legal profession. My hope is that by sharing my story, others can avoid the same pitfalls and seek better, more transparent legal representation.
