I recently completed the 40- hour Basic Mediation Course with Dr. Barbara Manousso. The course was excellent, and Dr Manousso was incredible. She has unimaginable energy, love of the subject matter, and an incredible knowledge and real life practical experience.
While the four- day course and routine are grueling, at the end of the course a person has enough credit hours to begin serving as a mediator. The course was excellent and provided a wonderful learning experience, even for a 38-year practicing tax attorney who is looking to expand his practice into Mediation and Arbitration. The course was insightful, interesting, entertaining and very enjoyable, while simultaneously providing outstanding substantive material and discussion, practical experience and skills training, and thoughtful and beneficial practical examples based on real life situations. The outside speakers and lecturers provided great insight and analysis regarding mediation skills, people, psychology, and mediation practice.
Dr. Barbara Manousso really cares about her students, and it shows in her dedication to the course and particularly in her follow-up with her students after the course has ended.

I took a basic mediation course from Dr. Manousso and I was extremely impressed with the way it was taught. She is a leader in the industry herself and in additional to her knowledge base she also had fantastic speakers who were top experts in their respective fields and also mediators including judges, lawyers, psychologists and many others speak to add more perspectives on mediation. After obtaining the largest contract of my ADR career a couple of weeks ago, all I could think about was how grateful I am for Dr. Manousso and Melissa! The only tangible way to truly express satisfaction and gratitude for excellence in this day and age is through a review. So here I am!

I took my mediation and arbitration courses after Dr. Manousso was patient enough to answer at least 6 of my calls, where I riddled her with questions about the courses and the ADR field in general. The course materials were thorough and substantive, not to mention entertaining. The materials included reading and movie-viewing assignments and a workbook (I won't spoil all the treats for you). They were perfect for delivering context and establishing a basis for the critical concepts we learned in class.

It doesn't end there. Lectures were delivered by subject matter experts, and we were given time to apply what we learned in practice mediation sessions. As a cohort, we were able to work together to hone our skills.

To top it ALL off, we had the privilege to learn how to apply our new skills in the building of our own Mediation/Arbitration business. This was yet, another extra mile Dr. Manousso took to prepare us for success in this industry.

Wait, did I mention that we could attend the class again as a refresher, for FREE?!

This is an instructional model designed with the intent to exceed expectations! And Indeed, it did. Thank you Dr. Manousso and team, for pouring so much into your students. I followed every step you taught me, and I am thriving because of your excellent program!

If you are registered for any other mediation training, I would suggest you ask for a refund. The mediation course is very relevant and extensive. This is a week packed of lecturing that is on the university level but appropriate for all learning styles and backgrounds. Dr. Manousso bring's the best of the best as guest lecturers from the psychological aspects of mediation and behavioral health sciences to well respected attorney's. The course is interactive and interesting. Dr. Manousso's witty personality makes the class fun and yet her knowledge and experience in the industry keep you motivated and proud to be a part of the mediation community. It's obvious that she has a passion for teaching and a love of the field. Since I have taken the course, I find myself to be a better communicator and professional.

Dr. Barbara Manousso’s Advanced Family and Divorce Mediation Training delivered excellent insights and content about this important area. She shared her long experience as a family mediation expert, including practical tips and methods to help clients through this difficult and challenging time in their lives. The speakers she assembled were top-notch, and together they represented a great cross section of the professional resources these clients need. After emerging from three very full days of intense instruction, discussion and role plays, I felt I had the tools I need to deliver mediation services via a process that is private, respectful, and tailored to these families’ individual situations. I was very dissatisfied with this course. The information presented was out of date, unorganized, and, in my opinion, some of it was unethical. The presenter was overly critical, gave conflicting information, and didn't control the classroom well. Some of the topics presented have nothing to do with mediation and would be better suited for someone looking for information on starting a small business (i.e. about 1 hour on how to create a resume, about 2 hours on how to use linked in, etc.).

I do not recommend this course if you want to truly learn mediation skills. Do not be fooled by the discounted rates - you get what you pay for.

Additionally, if you are an attorney looking for MCLE credit, she will ask you to pay an additional $15 to report the course to the SBOT. This is absolute thievery considering we can self report for free in about 25 seconds (you can look the course up on the SBOT website to get the course number).
