Save yourself the time, headache and money. If i could give 0 stars i would, i have never been so disappointed with a business. The lack of communication, customer service and respect is astounding. This is regarding his Oshawa location.
The worst thing you can probably do for yourself is hire an accounting firm that only cares about the transaction.
I have been working with this firm since it was taken over from a previous accountant(s) that i personally knew and trusted. So naturally, when i opened my first business over a year ago...it was easiest for me to also perform my business taxes and bookeeping at the same place since we have built some sort of rapport with my personal taxes.
The first red flag was when i first initiated bookeeping services with them, i received no type of outline as to what this entails, what they can help me with, what they actually do under "bookeeping"...etc. No contract, no outline, no guidance.
All i was told was it is $___ per hour, and to submit my documents and receipts in and they will take care of it from there. So this is what i did from Oct 2022 and on. My business being my first business, i had no idea what would be needed of me or what to expect so i would only hope that the accounting firm would guide me through this process. I received no guidance, no advise, not a thing. They just asked you for documents, you sent it over and you could just hope that things were properly done on their end because me (as a novice business owner not knowing much about how this side of things work) wouldn't have known any better. That's why you hire a "professional".
They sent me two invoices since i initiated bookeeping services with them... from Oct 2022-June 2023. After paying the first invoice in July 2023, i received another large invoice the following month after. The description as to what was done had very little and vague information, therefore i questioned the second invoice as to why it appeared so high.
Mind you, i am a new business meaning there's not that many transactions/sales on a monthly basis compared to others.
1. It took them up to 2 months after the invoice was sent to even acknowledge the email regarding the invoice and give me a call to apologize that they have just been "so busy". This is regarding the email inquiring why the invoice was so high and for a further breakdown.
2. I asked them at this point (Oct 2023) numerous times in emails to elaborate and they cannot give me a straight forward answer. I was even denied an in person meeting by Fred the owner as apparently i was "already given the answer" to why the invoice was so high. For context, in a poor attempt to explain my invoice they added both invoices and divided by 12 and said oh it's not that much it's only ___$ per month. Except the two invoices they sent were only from Oct 2022-June2023 therefore it didn't make sense because obviously that isn't 12 months.
3. I have been left hanging, no responses to emails, denied a meeting regarding questioning this invoice
4. I hired a new accountant due to my suspicion of being overcharged, who took a look at my books...who noted MANY missing pieces or half-complete tasks. Something an average person wouldn't have been able to pick out. To which the owner of this firm only denied and stated "he doesn't know what he's looking for".
5. We are now 3 months after receiving that invoice. Still no explanation from the owner and main accountant. Majority of my communication has been with their "manager", even though i do CC the owner himself. They also blocked me out of the receipt uploading program (senta) they have so i couldn't download my documents AND they refused to send it to me unless my invoice was paid. 3+ months later they continue to refuse to explain it to me thoroughly and ignore my emails.
I honestly just want to warn others to be careful, especially if you are a new business owner. Do not waste your time here. They do not care about their clients. Thankfully i only dealt with them for just over a year and not YEARS with my books.
