Nancy McCollough advertises as a tax expert with an MBA and over 20 years experience. She filed our 2023 returns, and when questioned about some inconsistencies, she doubled down and insisted it was correct. She’s the “tax expert”! After filing the returns for our small business, and getting a discount to refer 2 other family members, one family member with a basic pensioner return later received a large bill from CRA, and Nancy advised her to “just ignore it, it’s probably just a scam”. It was not. At that point we decided to have our returns checked by a CPA, and were told it was a fraudulent return, and we needed to amend our entire returns. It is now costing us thousands of dollars and a substantial amount of time to fix the mess. Nancy did refund her fee to us, but not our other two family members, and could not provide an explanation for the long list of errors she made on our returns. We have filed an official complaint with CRA and are grateful we went ahead and checked our returns to get ahead of having our return flagged for fraud, as ultimately it is the individual tax payer’s responsibility to file correct returns.
