I don't know about other lawyers in this law firm, but I would not recommend anyone using Shawn Hagen. I used him for a real estate transaction and it wasn't a good experience as he seems to be shady. First, I didn't receive the title deed for the property for months. If I had not reached out, I would not have received it, meaning I will be paying mortgage on a property that I don't have the title deed for. His paralegal said she was busy and she forgot to send the deed.

Second, there was a shortfall in the funds he sheld in trust for me and he also deducted more than the agreed amount for his professional services. I gave him a benefit of doubt that it could be a miscommunication between him and his paralegal. I called his attention to this, and he initially said he would look into it, but I have been following up with him for months and he has refused to respond to my mails and has not refunded my money. Anyone that knows what is best for them should avoid using Shawn Hagen.

If I could give firm “0” stars I would. They have been the biggest night mare to deal with and would not recommend them to my worst enemy. I sold my home and bought another over a year ago. Unfortunately the assistant held up my purchase due not understanding she kept putting the wrong purchase date on the paperwork going to the banks this happened multiple times and held it up for close to 2 weeks.And trying to reach either the lawyer or assistant was a nightmare it self! Fast forward a year to date and still have not received the final document for the purchase of my new home. Unless you plan on doing most of the leg work and continuously checking up on the progress of their work I highly recommend you consider another firm.

It Was really stressed full process with this lawyer and his team our closing process. I explained my situation at beginning of the process and told that I am not in Edmonton and need to sale my condo. The week before of closing date, his assistant still was waiting for me to go to their office to sign the paperwork when she found that I am not in Edmonton after two months then I signed all documents virtually and i was told that need to mail them my id and i did. On the closing date , i received an email ( not even a call and they never answered my calls) that they need the original signed paper and put all blame on me for miss communication. No communication within their team and with client. I had to send several follow up email for every single step. They released the founds late to me.
After all this stressful process, it has been a month but my real state agent has not still received his commission from this office and no one answered his call or email.

When strathcona law group joined sb llp back in January 2024 ,I became irrelevant and my file back benched , not so much as a phone call received, any inquiry led me to a departed lawyer and unable to even cancel my file amd return remaining retainer balance....poorest service I've ever had anywhere ●
